Who We Are
Peace Lodge No. 3936 is a Craft lodge meeting under the banner of the United Grand Lodge of England, within the Province of Yorkshire North and East Ridings. We meet at the Masonic Hall on Roman Road, Middlesbrough.
Founded in 1919 at the close of the First World War, our lodge was named "Peace" as a symbol of hope and fraternity. For over a century, we have upheld the traditions of Freemasonry while actively serving our local community through charitable works.
Our membership is diverse — from young professionals to retired gentlemen, from all occupations and backgrounds. What unites us is a shared commitment to self-improvement, mutual support, and giving back to those in need.
We pride ourselves on being a warm and welcoming lodge. Visitors and prospective members are always made to feel at home, and we take particular care to support new members through their early journey in Freemasonry.

What to Expect
A typical lodge evening combines tradition, learning, and fellowship.
The Lodge Meeting
The formal part of the evening involves ceremonial traditions that teach moral lessons through allegory and symbolism. These are dignified but not solemn — there is warmth and camaraderie throughout.
The Festive Board
After the lodge closes, members retire to dinner together. This is a convivial occasion with good food, conversation, and traditional toasts. It's where many of the strongest friendships are formed.
Social & Charitable Events
Beyond regular meetings, we organise social events for members and their families, charity fundraisers, visits to other lodges, and our famous annual charity walk.

Freemasonry is a secret society
Reality
Freemasonry is a society with some private traditions — not a secret society. Our meeting places are publicly listed, our members are free to declare their membership, and our charitable work is publicly documented.
Myth
You need to be invited to join
Reality
While historically men were encouraged to ask a Mason, today anyone can approach a lodge directly. We actively welcome enquiries from men interested in joining.
Myth
It's only for wealthy or powerful men
Reality
Our membership includes men from all walks of life and all income levels. Freemasonry is about character, not status. Subscriptions are designed to be affordable.
Myth
Freemasonry conflicts with religion
Reality
Freemasonry is not a religion and does not compete with any faith. Members are required to believe in a Supreme Being, but all faiths are welcome and respected equally.
Myth
Members get unfair advantages in business
Reality
Freemasonry explicitly prohibits using membership for personal or business advantage. Our principles of integrity make this absolutely clear.
